This Dreaming Earth is an installation that was created for the Living Room space at Brattleboro Museum and Art Center from March-July 2026. Inspired in part by an essay by Francis Weller- Medicine for the Long Dark- this immersive space invited engagement, contemplation and opportunities to consider our interconnectness with all of life on this Earth.
Several elements come together to create the immersive space. Central to the installation is an interactive quilt created by pixelating an image of the forest, separating and color matching each pixel to fabric and then reassembling the fabric squares in the same configuration.
I reached out to local artists to collaborate on creating the top background portion of the installation- only stipulating the size of the final pieces. Each artist was free to interpret as they felt inspired. Collaborating artists included: Katie Bachler, Juliet Cuming, Nika Fotopulos, Julianne Giordano, Jon Gitelson, Candace Jensen, Daniel Lang, Collin Leech, Evie Lovett, Ben Marder, Briony Morrow-Cribbs, Hazel Paris, Cynthia Houghton, Forest Ravi, Simha E. Ravven, M.D, Nancy Storrow, Willow Uth, Lauren Watrous, and the Tween Open Studio Students- River Gallery School of Art
At the heart of the invitations toward engagement were some questions that Weller poses in the essay. How can we remain present, even amidst great uncertainty and fear? How can we hold awareness of our interconnectness with all of the living beings on Earth? How can we remain committed to sending love out into a world that yearns for our devotion?
Visitors to the space have the opportunity to consider these questions- there are invitations to add to the fiber piece in response and also to add their thoughts to the pinning board.
